About Us

From our humble beginnings, First Community Bank has become a substantial financial institution with a forward-looking vision that has grown across four states.

In the Beginning - 1874

The seed for First Community Bank was first sown when The Bank of Princeton opened its doors in Princeton, West Virginia in 1874. This opening was a historic event, since it was one of the first four banks to be chartered in West Virginia, and the first to be chartered in Southern West Virginia. Nearly robbed by a member of the notorious James Gang in the late 1800s - but passed over because the bank's small size and poor appearance gave him the impression the bank wasn’t worth the effort - this small community bank had an eye on the future.

Growth and Expansion

In 1889, the Princeton Banking Company was chartered to take over the Bank of Princeton and, on December 20, 1930, The Bank of Princeton and the Virginian Bank & Trust Company consolidated to form the Princeton Bank and Trust Company. In 1983, Princeton Banc Holding Company was formed and soon changed its name to First Community Bancshares, Inc.

The New Millennium

With financial centers now located in West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and operating in Tennessee as People’s Community Bank, the First Community family has grown into a financial force throughout the Southeastern United States. In 2006, the company announced its acquisition of Investment Planning Consultants, Inc. (IPC), a wealth management advisory firm, and acquired North Carolina-based GreenPoint Insurance Group, Inc in 2007. Today, the company is publicly traded on the NASDAQ® Global Select Market under the symbol “FCBC.” and is headquartered in Bluefield, Va., with a new regional headquarters recently opened in Winston-Salem, NC.
